I hadn’t noticed it before but 3M is promoting the photo-safety of their adhesive products. According to the boxes, permanent double sided tape and Magic Tape comply with ISO 18916. ISO 18916 is the Photographic Activity Test designed to ensure that materials do not react with photos. I am glad to learn this fact and am planning to use 3M’s 665 Permanent Double Sided Tape in place of Creative Memories’ discontinued Photo Tape.
Photo-safe products are also available from 3L. Their products comply with another ISO standard, ISO 18932, which indicates that their adhesives are permanent and safe for photos. Look for their ISO 18932 Approved label on their adhesives.

About Mark Mizen
I have over twenty years professional experience in all aspects of photography and digital imaging. I am Chair of the ISO WG5 TG2 committee responsible for physical properties and durability of imaging material and am currently with HID Global working on systems for security printing for IDs, licenses, and credit cards. Previously, I was Director of Digital Development at Creative Memories from 2009 to 2012 and was responsible for the Creative Memories digital products and services. I also established and directed the Creative Memories Technology Center, which evaluated new products prior to product introduction, assisted with production difficulties, and provided technical information to support product sales.
Thank you, Mark. Isn’t 3L the company that made the tape runner and adhesives for Creative Memories?
Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, I am not able to supply information on Creative Memories suppliers.
Thanks, very helpful to know. I have used this in the past.
It is good to know and glad you are on the outlook. thank you for that! As for me, I have plenty of CM refills to carry me over to what they will be using once they reorganize. Nice to know there are alternatives just in case!
Thank you so much for keeping us informed and helping us with some alternatives.
